There may be some mileage in trying to avoid inexperienced users from hitting
the list - but with regard to subscribing via the web we've put together an
"email validation" system to sit in front of the subscrive option. Basically
when you type in your email address you get sent a mail with a password in it -
return to the site with that password and we'll let you subscribe to any list
you like (on our site:).
We've even been considering hacking this into majordomo itself - I believe
listserv let's you make sure people don't *really* subscribe to a
confirmation is sent from the email address being subscribed.
